It's ok to be a girl, not a woman!

Updated: Sep 17, 2023

Did you know that every second, minute and hour of the day is time you will never get back? Yes, you’ll reach the same time in the day, but definitely a different date. So why are you in such a hurry to grow up and rush life? Being grown is a blessing, but super overrated. Funny thing is when you’re in your teens, you often wish you were older - but when you’re older, you’ll often wish you could go back to being younger. You’ll tell yourself, “if I knew then what I know now, I would have done things differently.” There are so many moments in life I wish I could wake up, and enjoy the simple pleasures of being a teen. Freely hanging with friends, sleeping in, not being stressed with the demands of the world, knowing it’s okay to have a bad hair day, doing homework and having the ability to just go to school, establish good relationships and friendships, play sports, cheer and just have fun. All the things super unique to being a teen. Knowing that the relationships you establish now, are forever life long.

So for kicks and giggles, have you ever noticed that the older people get, they seem to resort to being a young kid again or maybe even a baby? You’ll notice that physically they need help with certain things because of their old age, just like a kid. As you age, your body changes and suddenly your ability to do things you once did are a little bit more challenging. For instance, the struggle of going up stairs because your knees hurt or not being able to jog at the park because you’re easily out of breath. What about just waking up in the morning to discover your neck and shoulders hurt… etc. etc.

Adulting may look glamorous and fun, but it comes with a level of stress and responsibility unimaginable. As a woman/adult, you’ll have to make decisions that can have an impact on not only yourself; but maybe your family, your husband, or significant other, your parents, and your future. Do you catch my drift?

The point is, take advantage of the time you have at this moment. Stop worrying about tomorrow. By worrying about tomorrow, you never really live for today, and so many things, opportunities, friendships will pass you by.

So it’s ok to be a girl, not a woman. You’ll have plenty enough time to be a woman when the time is right. The great thing about life is that every part of life is a steppingstone into the next season. Everything you are learning right now, as a teen, is preparing you for the next stages in life. So Doll, be open minded, be observant, be willing to learn, be willing to share what you have learned with friends, and be willing to speak to your parents, grandparents, or any adult that you trust and love about whatever is living rent free in your mind that may not be good or worries you. Because as you age, the woman you will become will love and appreciate your younger self for it.
